Here at Gordon Greenwood Elementary, Music is offered from Kindergarten to Grade 7.  We are dedicated in providing a broad range of experiences appropriate for their age that include singing, reading music, playing instruments, and Music Exploration.  In the younger grades, students have the opportunity to explore different kinds of instruments and learn about the basics of music.  In Grade 3, students enter a recorder program where they learn to read music, compose, and improve upon their fine motor skills.  In Grades 4 & 5, students enter a 2-year ukulele program where they continue to learn about reading music, composing, and combining singing with playing.  In Grades 6 & 7, students enter our Band program where each child gets to focus on one instrument over the 2 years.  They develop listening skills, independence, and collaboration skills between working with their peers in class and practicing individually at home.
